Welcome to the Kojo Website

Kojo is a five-piece band combining elements of jazz, funk and soul to produce an uplifting and inspiring sound. Unrivalled in musicality, the repertoire combines catchy originals with ingenious Kojo reworks of popular songs of yesteryear. In its two year history, it has established numerous prestigious residencies in venues around the North West, and is now one of the busiest outfits performing in the area.

The band is fronted by the charismatic Simon Kodjo Sackey, who combines soulful vocals with sublime jazz voicings on acoustic guitar. Bandleader, musical director and master of ceremonies, Simon also writes Kojo's original material. He is joined on vocals by young beauty Alicia, whos sultry vocals float effortlessly over the Kojo sound.

Inimitable bass player Sheriff has been a professional musician for over fifteen years, performing all over the UK. Also a talented drummer, he was described by Bass as: "bad dude, hipster, clear as day and funky as revelation". The newest addition to the band is young keyboard player John Cervantes, who was quickly snapped up by Kojo on his recent entree to the Manchester scene. He has performed with Angolan/Brazilian star Manuel de Vito, and is also a talented jazz musician.

Mikey P (Michael Partridge) is one of the most respected professional drummers in Manchester, regularly called on as a dependable musician by performing artists in the North West and further afield. With Benji Reid, he headlined the New York Hip Hop Theatre Festival 2005, with the show "13 mics".
